General & preventive
General dentistry in Churchville.
The everyday work — cleanings, exams, fillings, kids’ check-ups, gum care — done unhurriedly and well, the way this office has done it on Scenic Hwy since 1950.
General dentistry is what keeps your mouth quietly healthy. It’s the routine cleaning that prevents next year’s gum trouble. It’s the exam that catches a small dark spot on a molar before it becomes a root canal. It’s the sealant on a child’s six-year molar that prevents a lifetime of fillings. None of it is dramatic — but over decades, it’s how families keep their teeth.
At Willis Family Dentistry Churchville, your visits stay unhurried. The hygienist takes the time to do the cleaning properly. Dr. Agrawal does the exam himself, every visit, and explains plainly what he’s seeing. If something needs follow-up, you’ll hear what it costs and what happens if you wait. If nothing needs follow-up, you’ll hear that too — no manufactured concerns.
What “comprehensive” actually means
A comprehensive dental exam is more than a quick look. Dr. Agrawal checks every tooth for new decay or wear, examines every existing filling and crown for breakdown, evaluates your gums for recession and pocket depth, looks at how your bite closes, and screens for oral cancer at the same visit. We review the X-rays that are due — typically once a year for bitewings, less often for a full mouth series — and explain what they show.
Most visits end with “everything looks good, see you in six months.” When something does need attention, we tell you about it directly: what it is, why it matters, what your options are, and what each will cost. No pressure, no urgency you don’t need.
Care that fits your life
We see kids who are nervous about their first cleaning. Working adults who need an appointment that fits around a Staunton commute. Retirees who’ve been coming here for forty years. Grandparents bringing in the grandchildren. The schedule is built to accommodate real families with real schedules, not a clinic optimized for throughput.
If you’re a new patient, we’ll start with a comprehensive exam and a cleaning. If you’ve been away from a dentist for a while, that’s fine — most patients who’ve avoided dental care have done so because of something we can solve. We’ll meet you where you are.

General dentistry — common questions.
How often should I be seen?
Twice a year is the baseline for most healthy adults — that cadence keeps tartar from building up to the point of inflaming your gums. If you have a history of gum disease, heavy tartar, dry mouth from medication, or several active cavities, Dr. Agrawal may suggest three- or four-month cleanings for a while. We adjust the schedule to what we actually see at your visits.
I haven't been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We see new patients all the time who've been away from a dental office for ten or twenty years. There's no lecture and no judgment — we start with a thorough exam, take the X-rays we need, and put together an honest plan to get you back on track at whatever pace suits you.
Do you see kids?
Yes. We see children from their first tooth through high school and beyond. Family appointments can be scheduled back-to-back, which a lot of our western Augusta County families appreciate.
What insurance do you take?
We work with most major dental insurance plans. If you're not sure whether yours is accepted, call us at 540-337-6004 and we'll check before your appointment. If you don't have insurance, ask about Virginia Dental Club — a flat-fee membership that covers preventive care and discounts everything else.
What happens during a comprehensive exam?
Dr. Agrawal checks every tooth for new decay, examines existing fillings and crowns for wear, evaluates your gums and bite, and screens for oral cancer. We review any X-rays that are due, talk through what we see, and explain anything that needs follow-up. Most visits end with everything looking fine and a six-month recall.
Do you handle emergencies?
Yes — we hold same-day emergency slots during our clinical hours (Mon–Fri 8–5) for toothaches, broken teeth, lost crowns, and other urgent issues. Call 540-337-6004 as early as you can in the day.
No insurance? No problem.
The Churchville tradition of accessible care continues.
Virginia Dental Club is an annual membership built for the patient without dental insurance — or with insurance that no longer earns its keep.
Your routine cleanings, exams, and necessary x-rays for the year are included. Everything else — fillings, crowns, dentures, cosmetic work — comes with a flat member discount. No deductibles, no claim forms, no waiting periods.
Virginia Dental Club is not insurance. It is a discount membership administered by Membersy LLC. Plan details and savings may vary by office.
